Ireland ready for the World Amateur Team Championships – ladies begin tomorrow
Over the next two weeks Carton House GC near Dublin will host the World Amateur Team Championships – WATC). Ladies, including the representation of Poland, will be the first to compete.
The competition among women’s teams will last from 29 August till 1 September. The World Amateur Championships will be organized for the 28th time for what is also known as the Esprito Santo Trophy. Organised under the patronage of the International Golf Federation, this tournament will bring together 58 teams from around the world.
Poland will be represented by: Dorota Zalewska (Binowo Park GC), Nicole Polivchak (Toya G&CC) and Dominika Gradecka (Gradi GC).
For four days, the ladies will compete in stroke play. Then two best results achieved by all contestants on each day will be added up to give the team’s final result.
In the championships held in Mexico two years ago, first place was taken by representatives of South Korea. The Swiss won silver, while the Irish carried off the bronze medal. The Polish team was ranked 48th.
A week after the ladies (5-8 Sept 2018), 71 men’s teams will begin their competition. It will be the 31st edition of the World Amateur Team Championships, also known as the Eisenhower Trophy. The following squad has been selected to represent Poland: Jan Szmidt (Toya G&CC), Alejandro Pedryc (Sobienie Królewskie G&CC) and Philipp Pakosch (Sobienie Królewskie G&CC).
