Mateusz Gradecki ranked high in Morocco
The Open Prestigia 2018 counted in the Pro Golf Tour turned out to be tough due to weather conditions. The final was dominated by Liam Johnston. Mateusz Gradecki was ranked 5th.
At this time of the year, Casablanca is normally an ideal place to play golf. However, the participants of the Open Prestigia were tormented with oppressive rain, wind, and cold. It was due to torrential rain that the final round started later than planned, and golfers finished the tournament just before dusk. The tournament was won by Liam Johnston from Scotland, who recorded a 203 (-12).
Appearing for the third time this year in the Pro Golf Tour, Mateusz Gradecki was 5 strokes behind the leader (208). After the first round – played at the Prestigia Tony Jacklin (par 72) – which was the worst for the majority of golfers in terms of results, the Pole carded a 70. Next day, the struggle continued at the Palmeraie golf course (par 71), where Gradecki played at 2-under-par. During the final round, held again at Prestigia Tony Jacklin, Mateusz improved the result he recorded two days earlier and finished at a 69. A high place in this tournament meant climbing a few notches in the Order of Merit classification, where Gradecki is ranked 7th.
Three other members of the PGA Poland also struggled with the Moroccan golf course: Grzegorz Zieliński, Adrian Kaczała, and Jakub Piotrowski. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it through the CUT. Zieliński, who was closest to advancing to the final round, missed it by only one stroke.
All four Poles, led by Gradecki, are going to appear on the starting list of the next Pro Golf Tour tournament – the Open Casa Green Golf 2018, which is scheduled to begin next Thursday (8-10.02). It will be held at Palmeraie Country Club and Casa Green Golf Club.
