USA: Mateusz Gradecki in top 20 of SBIA
After four intensive rounds of the South Beach International Amateur, held in Miami, Mateusz Gradecki (Gradi GC) was ranked 19th with 279 strokes.The winner was a 19-year old American, Jacob Bergeron, who shot a 267.
The South Beach International Amateur (SBIA) is a relatively young but highly rated tournament in the calendar of the most important amateur competitions. The seventh edition that finished on Friday attracted over 200 participants from 30 countries around the world.
The representative of Gradi GC began the tournament calmly. He finished the first two rounds—initially played at Normandy Shores GC (par 70) and then at Miami Beach GC (par 71)—on the par. The Pole carded a 141, which was the last chance to make it through the cut. The total of 78 golfers advanced to the next stage, played on the golf course belonging to Miami Beach GC.
The third round ended with a slightly worse result (+1). In the final round, however, he fired 7 birdies and two bogeys and climbed up in the final classification with the best result of the day (-5). Eventually, 279 strokes gave him the shared 19th place.
The winner of the tournament was Jacob Bergeron (43. WAGR), a representative of the host, who was among the leaders since the second day. Shooting a 71-66-62-68 (267, -16), Bergeron outperformed his rivals and became the 7th victor of the SBIA.
