Special thanks for cooperation to Mike O’Brien

22.12.2017

After 14 years, Michael O’Brien resigned from the position of the national team coach.

O’Brien started cooperation with the PGU in 2003. Since that time, he has led the national team through all most important golf tournaments in the world, i.e. individual and team European Championships and World Championships. For more than 15 years of cooperation, he led the Polish team to, among others, the promotion to the first division of the European Men’s Team Championship (2014), 3rd place for juniors in the 3rd European Olympics Hopes Trophy, 8th place in team classification and 3rd place in individual classification during the World Championship in Mexico in 2016, as well as to the silver medal for our ladies in the European Ladies’ Team Shield Championship 2017.

The PGU’s president, Marek Michałowski, admits that tasks which were set for O’Brien for over a decade posed a considerable challenge: “In 2003, Polish golf was only 10 years old. Mike O’Brien took the development of the national team’s structures and junior golf on his shoulders. In my opinion, this period has been highly productive and successful. The credit for the significant progress made by Polish golf in recent years should be given to people like Mike. In my own name, as well as on behalf of the Board and the whole Union, I would like to thank Mike for his contribution to the development of Polish golf and all those years of his work. We regret that Mike has taken this decision, but we also understand that, having worked in one place for such a long time, everybody needs a change of air and wishes to seek new professional challenges. We give Mike our best recommendations, at the same time, wishing him the best of luck and much success in his future professional career.”
