Polish Younger Junior and Youngster Championships played as part of YOD come to an end
II Polish Younger Junior Championship and I Polish Youngster Championship — part of XXIII Polish Youth Olympic Days (YOD) — were held at First Warsaw Golf & Country Club on August 8-10. After a two-day competition, winners were determined in each category.
The two-day event — counted as the PREMIUM category of PGU ranking — attracted 55 representatives from 7 voivodships competing for the championship title in the younger junior category (13-15 years old), in the category of youngsters (11-12 years old) and for points for their regions (communes, poviats, voivodships) within the system of national competition. This year, the Masovian Voivodeship hosted a sporting event where the most talented juniors competed against each other.
Maksymilian Biały (Tokary GC), the vice-champion of the last year’s Polish Younger Juniors Championship, had the best result this year (167 strokes) and triumphed in his category. One stroke behind him was Alex Modrzejewski, representing the host. Third came Konrad Bargenda (Sobienie Królewskie), who shot a 160.
11 girls competed for the championship title among younger juniors. Antonina Łęcka (Kalinowe Pola GC) from the Lubusz Voidodeship won this category with 167 strokes. Three strokes behind her was Anastazja Piechula (Sobienie Królewskie G&CC), finishing in second position. The total of 179 (89, 85) was enough for Anna Łęcka (Kalinowe Pola GC) to win the bronze medal.
Among youngsters, the best results belong to Maciej Janusiewicz (167), who is the first person in history to become Polish Youngster Champion. The Tyskie KG player finished with 167 strokes. Second and third came golfers from KG Lisia Polana: Albert Ferenc (173) and Leon Krawczyk (191).
Kleopatra Kozakiewicz (Kalinowe Pola GC), who beat Aleksandra Jaworska (Tokary) in a playoff, won the Polish Youngster Championship title. After two rounds, both golfers finished at 193. Nina Pitsch (Armada GC), who shot a 212, was ranked third.
In the team classification, the most points were collected by Sobienie Królewskie G&CC, who won with the representatives of Kalinowe Pola GC and Binowo Park GC. In the classification of voivodships, the top places were taken by the Masovian, Silesian, and Lubusz Voivodeships.
During the closing ceremony of the championship, Marek Michałowski, the President of the Polish Golf Union, thanked all golfers and whoever contributed to the organization of this event, i.e. the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, the Union of Sports Associations in Warsaw and Mazovia, the Marshal Office of the Mazovian Voivodeship, and the Polish Olympic Committee.
The president of First Warsaw G&CC, Tavi Nimrod, prepared a surprise for the golfers: “I’d like to thank everybody for coming. It was our pleasure to have you here and to watch you competing. I’d like to avail myself of this opportunity to award all participants of the Youth Olympic Days with a year’s membership in our club. You can play at First Warsaw without limitation for a year. Thank you and see you on a golf course!”
YOD is a cycle of sports events held within the framework of Younger Junior Polish Championships in many sports disciplines. Each year, the event is held by a different voivodship, and the idea of this event is based on the principles of the Olympic Games program.
